Interviewed by the MagelisTV site at the time of the release of The Source, Rodophe Lauga justified his choice concerning the Champs-de-Manœuvre housing estate: “The producers of Nolita had already shot a film by Jean-Paul Rouve there. They had done the scouting of the Champs-de-Manœuvre district, which is in Soyaux and which corresponded to what I was looking for, namely a low-income district. A provincial city with trees, airy, rather pretty in fact. I find this place very cinematic. It has a lot of parameters that I was looking for.“
Rodolphe Lauga’s team has put the Allende Park to particular use. The arrival of Christophe Lambert on the site creates the event. The inhabitants are delighted to be able to attend a real movie shoot. Several extras are also recruited on site. A decision justified by the filmmaker: “We are on a committed shoot for a committed film, which has an obvious social setting. We try to talk about fundamental issues with poetry, lightness, accuracy, to show something other than clichés.“
In total, the actors and the director stay on site for about fifteen days. “I wanted us to work in this neighborhood with honesty. I wanted there to be an exchange of good practices, that the inhabitants of the district could benefit from an extraordinary adventure to be able to perhaps open up to something other than what life has brought them to do. All the extras came from the Champs-de-Manoeuvres. It was very moving to see how well we were received. We had some pretty intense human adventures, with people bringing us food and showing us their gratitude for choosing their neighborhood.“
The filming in the Champs-de-Manoeuvre housing estate lasted 15 days.
The Champs-de-Manœuvre
The Champs-de-Manœuvre, the main housing estate in Soyaux, a suburb of Angoulême, has been awarded the Cité Educative label in 2021.
In 1958, the vast project to build a residential complex was launched on a site used as an airfield and maneuvering field for tanks during the First World War. The foundation stone was laid on February 28, 1959. In 1968, 2137 housing units, including 56 pavilions, were available. Over the years, the city expanded and justified the construction of nine schools, including the Romain Rolland college. A shopping center was also built. The buildings were also progressively renovated in order to offer more comfort and security to the inhabitants.
