Church
The action of Blanche et Marie may be set in the north of France, but director Jacques Renard did shoot in the Angoulême region. In an effort to save money, the film crew filmed one of the most beautiful scenes southeast of Angoulême, in Sers. This is where Sandrine Bonnaire and Clémentine Célarié ride their bikes before going home. We then see clearly on the screen the church of Sers.
Importantly, this sequence of plenitude precedes another one, clearly more violent. A sort of timeless pause, whose objective is to illustrate Blanche and Fernande’s budding friendship. A way for Jacques Renard to exploit the beauty and tranquility of the Charente countryside. The filmmaker didn’t have to make any changes to make it look like the action took place during the occupation.
Blanche et Marie is Jacques Renard’s fourth film.
Sers
Proudly dominating the valley, the Saint-Pierre church is the main monument of the village of Sers.
Classified as a historical monument since 1970, the Saint-Pierre de Sers church stands out thanks to its architecture. With its airs of castle, it gives to the village all its character and remains very appreciated by the visitors. Only 63 inhabitants live in Sers all year round. The village is located in the Bons Bois, a Cognac appellation region. It remains famous for its hermitage of Bellevau and its miraculous fountain. The castle, the house of Nanteuil, the Roc and the old forge of Plache Meunier ensure a significant influx of tourists during the summer season.
