Castle of Nieuil
Dozens of guests flock to the Château de Nieuil to celebrate the union of Mélanie (Mélanie Maudran) and Cédric (Jean-Marc Coudert). Some guests are allowed to take a hot air balloon ride and fly over the estate’s pool. Very quickly, they see the newlyweds arguing. The wife hits her husband with a bottle of champagne, he dives into the pool and drowns, all under the frightened eyes of friends and family.
This episode is one of eight shot in Charente between April and December 2012. Originally scheduled to air on February 28, 2013, Noces de sang waited until March 7 before being scheduled on the small screen. The scene with the hot air balloon having been judged ill-advised the day after the tragedy that struck Luxor in Egypt and involving the explosion of a hot air balloon causing about twenty victims.
The episode Noces de sang was seen by 7.1 million viewers.
Castle of Nieuil
Two buildings have succeeded each other as Castle of Nieuil since the time of François I. A place of character registered as a historical monument since 2014.
The king of France, François I, used to come on these lands to hunt. It was at this time that the first castle of Nieuil was built.
Until the 19th century, many owners were able to enjoy the magnificent Charentais estate. In 1883, Count Guillaume-Guy de Dampierre had the present castle built entirely on the grounds of the old castle. The only remaining vestige is a tower, visible to the west. The same character made the vineyard of Brénanchie grow there.
Today the castle has been transformed into a hotel and has a restaurant called La Grange aux oies.
