“- Hey there, Corto… how’s it going? Are you sunbathing?

– Damn fool, I just had to run into you.”

Rasputin and Corto (from the first panel of Una ballata del mare salato)

Created in 1967 by the Italian cartoonist and scriptwriter Hugo Pratt, Corto Maltese is an adventurous sailor who is one of the most popular characters in European comics of the twentieth century.

To pay tribute to its creator, Livio Benedetti and his son Luc cast a first bronze statue in 1996, before the death of their friend author. This first statue was installed and inaugurated in 2007 in the village of Grandvaux, the village where Hugo Pratt ended his life and was buried.

A second statue was installed in 2008 in Angoulême, capital of the comic strip for its festival. A popular event during which the first album of the series received a prize in 1976.

It is in the center of the bridge linking the Moebius ship to the Comic Book Museum, that the adventurer is enthroned, looking out over the Atlantic Ocean.

Passerelle Hugo Pratt (Passerelle Magelis)

The Hugo Pratt footbridge connects the city of comics and its museum with the ship moebius where we find the library.

Inaugurated in 2008, the Hugo Pratt footbridge bears the name of the famous Italian comic book author in honor of the statue of Corto Maltese that sits in the middle of it.
Launched by Magelis in 2007, the footbridge links the two main buildings of the Cité with the museum and the Moebius ship.
For its practical and aesthetic role, it will receive in 2010 the prize for urban development.
