Ringo Starr's childhood home
Ringo Starr was born as Richard Starkey in a modest house at 9 Madryn Street, in one of the poorest parts of Liverpool. Sickly and sickly, the child lives his first years in fear, while England is bombed by the German army during the Second World War. When he was three years old, he moved to another house, not much bigger, at 10 Admiral Grove, also in Liverpool.
In touch with its origins
The success did not encourage Ringo Starr to forget his modest origins. Over the years, motivated by a desire to compose, the Beatle managed to impose his voice, as with Octopus’s garden one of the songs on the album Abbey Road. In this piece he is inspired by the end of the group but also by a stay in Sardinia during which he was able to observe octopuses in their natural habitat. In connection with his roots, Ringo Starr then aspires to a little more tranquility.
A house saved from demolition
Already damaged after the bombing, Ringo Starr’s childhood home almost disappeared. However, the popularity of the drummer among fans weighed heavily on the scale and encouraged the municipality to preserve it and then renovate it, like all the other houses in the neighborhood. A way to pay tribute to the talent and bonhomie of Ringo Starr. A musician who, following the dissolution of the Beatles, continued a rich solo career, occasionally finding his comrades John Lennon, George Harrison and Paul McCartney for various collaborations.
Ringo Starr sings a song on every Beatles album. There are exceptions, however, such as Let It Be, on which he sings none.
9 Madryn St
This modest dwelling in the poor neighborhoods of Liverpool is famous for having been the birthplace of Ringo Starr, the drummer of the Beatles.
The family of Richard Starkey, aka Ringo Starr, lived at 9 Madryn Street when England suffered a series of bombardments during the Second World War. When he was only 3 years old, Ringo Starr followed his family and moved to 10 Admiral Grove, where he lived until 1963. In 2010, the dilapidated state of the neighborhood encouraged the Municipality of Liverpool to launch a large demolition campaign. Several associations are protesting against this decision. In 2013, local residents supported a renovation plan that included the restoration of Ringo Starr’s birthplace.
