Address 9 Madryn St Liverpool L8, UK

This modest dwelling in the poor neighborhoods of Liverpool is famous for having been the birthplace of Ringo Starr, the drummer of the Beatles.

The family of Richard Starkey, aka Ringo Starr, lived at 9 Madryn Street when England suffered a series of bombardments during the Second World War. When he was only 3 years old, Ringo Starr followed his family and moved to 10 Admiral Grove, where he lived until 1963. In 2010, the dilapidated state of the neighborhood encouraged the Municipality of Liverpool to launch a large demolition campaign. Several associations are protesting against this decision. In 2013, local residents supported a renovation plan that included the restoration of Ringo Starr’s birthplace.
