“I would prefer to defend you but I don’t have the experience. It is in your best interest that I withdraw.”

Pauline (Zabou Breitman)

Céline and Martin Guyot, the two directors of La Loi de Pauline, have settled in the Angoulême region to shoot the third TV movie of the saga La Loi de …. Thus, several sites, located in Mansle, Poursac, Marsac, Ruelle-sur-Touvre, Gond-Pontouvre and of course Angoulême saw the whole team arrive, led by the headliner Zabou Breitman. The latter plays a new lawyer, in the process of divorce, sent to Charente to defend a farmer who is the subject of very serious accusations.

The prison is chosen by the production for obvious reasons. Indeed, rather than filming the prison scenes in Paris, the directors wanted to centralize the shooting in Charente. This is how the Angouleme penitentiary appears on the screen, when Pauline goes to talk with her client in a cramped room.

The saga La Loi de … follows two independent TV movies, namely La Loi de Barbara, with Josiane Balasko and La Loi d’Alexandre, with Gérard Jugnot. The principle? Each TV movie features a leading lady as a lawyer facing a difficult case. Each episode is also directed by a different team. La Loi de Pauline is not the first episode to exploit the landscapes of New Aquitaine. A little later in 2017, La Loi de Gloria, starring Victoria Abril, was also filmed in Angouleme, as were other episodes.

The series of TV movies La Loi de… consists of 8 TV movies of 90 minutes each.

Prison of Angoulême

The main penitentiary of the department of Charente, the prison of Angoulême opened its doors in 1889.

Located in the city center, this prison depends on the interregional direction of the penitentiary services of Bordeaux. The building is divided by two corridors into a cross in the center of which is a traffic circle. It has four courtyards and is designed in such a way that no cell window opens onto the street, in order to avoid unauthorized visits. It consists of a main detention area, a women’s area, a juvenile area and a disciplinary area where the isolation zone is located.
