Louise Laffont's apartment
Georges (Romain Duris), a former soldier of the First World War, decides to find his family in France after having fled to Africa to escape bad memories. When he arrives in Nantes, he finds his mother (Maryvonne Schiltz) and his brother Marcel (Grégory Gadebois) in the family apartment.
Still traumatized, he meets Hélène (Céline Sallette), Marcel’s sign language teacher. This meeting gradually helps Georges to rebuild his life.
Louise Laffont’s apartment is located in Aubeterre-sur-Dronne and not in Nantes. More precisely at 22 rue Pierre Véry. In an interview for Sud Ouest, Emmanuel Courcol, the director, explained the choice of the Charente for a small part of the shooting of his film: “I’ve shot in Angoulême before and was at the FFA, so it’s a place I know well and enjoy. It’s a very diverse department that allowed us to find everything we wanted.”
Moreover, Aubeterre-sur-Dronne was not exclusively used for the shooting of the scenes in Mrs. Laffont’s apartment. The director tells us in his interview that they forgot to shoot a shot when the team was in Africa. So they decided to film him in Aubeterre in the middle of the night. And as a result, the illusion is perfect.
The film crew stayed 4 weeks in Charente.
22 Rue Pierre Véry
Pierre Véry street is one of the main streets of the small village of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne.
Aubeterre-sur-Dronne is a small village in the department of Charente and is part of the association of the Most Beautiful Villages of France. The village has preserved a typical architecture of the XXth century, in particular the apartment located at 22 rue Pierre Véry which was used for the shooting of the film Cessez-le-feu which takes place in 1923.
