Hideaway Bar

TV show Stranger Things Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer (2016)
The Hideway bar appears twice in Stranger Things. It is indeed there that Jim Hopper (David Harbour) interrogates the man at the origin of the discovery of the body of the young Will (Noah Schnapp) but it is also between the walls of the establishment that the conclusion of the season 2 takes place partly.

“Joyce, this is Hawkins, okay? You wanna know the worst thing that’s ever happened here in the four years I’ve been working here? Do you wanna know the worst thing? It was when an owl attacked Eleanor Gillespie’s head because it thought that her hair was a nest.”

Jim Hopper (David Harbour)

It is shortly after the discovery of Will Byers’ (Noah Schnapp) remains that Police Chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) finds the man who found the body at the Hideway bar. Later, in the final episode of season 2, the action returns to this facility. It is in a real bar, the Smokin’ Cues, in Stockbridge, that the directors filmed these sequences. For the occasion, a fake sign was installed and the decoration slightly modified. Nevertheless, having a drink there today is the equivalent of being immersed in the atmosphere of Stranger Things. So much so that one would almost expect to see Jim Hopper walking through the door, looking for a clue to the unexplained events behind the disappearances in Hawkins.

Based at Screen Gem Studios in Atlanta, the production of Stranger Things has also contributed greatly to the popularity of some of the surrounding small towns, such as Stockbridge. Not only was the township used as a location for the Hidway bar sequences, but it also allowed the Duffer brothers’ crew to film all the scenes taking place in Hawkins Middle School, which is actually located within Saint Patrick Middle School and High School, a disused school.

Stranger Things has never hidden its affiliation with Stephen King. The latter, far from being offended by the numerous borrowings from his work, has on the contrary always considered himself as one of the first fans of the show. Fun fact, Stockbridge was also the location for part of The Outsider, the HBO adaptation of the horror master’s novel of the same name.

The first three seasons of Stranger Things have encouraged the publication of six books: five novels and a collection of short stories.

Smokin' Cues

A favorite spot for locals and tourists, the Smokin’ Cues offers both cocktails and regional specialties.

Popular for its friendly atmosphere and generous menu, Smokin’ Cues is one of Stockbridge’s most popular bars. The city, whose population is around 26,000, is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. It is particularly known for having seen the birth of the father of Martin Luther King Jr.. Many people working in Atlanta have settled there, thanks to the quality of life it offers.
