Hawkins Cinema
It was in Jackson that Matt and Ross Duffer, the showrunners of Stranger Things, found the perfect building to create the main movie theater in the small town of Hawkins, where their new series takes place. Already tapped to house the library, located in the courthouse, Jackson sees his famous Bradley’s Olde Tavern transformed into a vintage movie theater for the purposes of the script. To do this, the decorators remove anything that might betray the true identity of the place, wall off the windows and add a sign typical of American neighborhood movie theaters.
It is notably there that Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) rushes and it is also here, on the facade, that Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) paints an insulting inscription to Nancy, during season 1. Having benefited from the know-how of the craftsmen of the production, the place is more true to life but does not actually house any room or popcorn dispenser but a nice counter, tables and chairs. It is difficult to recognize the place today since it has been restored to its original function.
Matt and Ross Duffer, who are steeped in the cult films of the 1980s, drew heavily on some of the classics to write the storyline for Stranger Things. The show cites in particular Ghostbusters, Alien, Carrie, Commando, E.T., Explorers or of course Terminator, whose credits were used as a basis for Stranger Things.
The terrifying Demogorgon made the most appearances in episode 6 of season 2, seven in total.
Bradley's Olde Tavern
A pub-like bar, Bradley’s Olde Tavern quenches the thirst of residents of Jackson, Georgia.
With its vast room, its huge bar and its wide choice of beers and other drinks, this tavern is one of the most popular in the small town of Jackson. It is located in the central square, opposite the court. Jackson is known for having given birth to Douglass Watson, the star of the Another World series, but also Neiron Ball, an NFL player who officiated in the Oakland Raiders. The city remains infamous for being almost completely razed to the ground by General William T. Sherman during the Civil War.
