“I bet you’re dying to see me play.”

Nicolas Cage (Nicolas Cage)

The fictional version of Nicolas Cage in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent does not live in Las Vegas like the actor, but in the heart of Los Angeles. Crisscrossing the city at the wheel of his car, looking for the role capable of reviving his career, the actor goes to the Chateau Marmont restaurant to meet a prominent filmmaker.

Equally synonymous with luxury and decadence, the Chateau Marmont is an iconic hotel in Hollywood history. It was therefore logical that director Tom Gormican started the plot of his meta film in which Nicolas Cage plays a slightly fictionalized version of himself, with a lot of self-mockery. Accustomed to filming, the Chateau Marmont has no difficulty in welcoming the star. Nicolas Cage finds himself at the table of the restaurant with its characteristic decoration, facing David Gordon Green, the director who, in real life, directed him in Joe, one of his most critically acclaimed films. Nicolas Cage also wanted David Gordon Green to make this appearance. At first, Quentin Tarantino had to face him.

If he was at first difficult to convince, Nicolas Cage quickly seized the opportunity, seeing it as a chance to confront his own legend, shaped by memes and other crazy gifs on the Internet. A relationship with a sometimes distorted public image about which he expressed himself in the magazine Première: “I had to play with it and become self-aware about it and try to work with what had happened to me in terms of the internet There are other actors who are far more famous than I am who I don’t think have had to look so closely at memefication as I have. And so, I had to do something with it. And I think this movie gave me an opportunity to play with that.

This is the second time that Nicolas Cage is facing himself in a movie after Adaptation. by Spike Jonze in which the actor played two twin brothers.

Chateau Marmont

Built in 1929, the Chateau Marmont is one of the most unusual and sultry monuments on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles.

Inspired by the Chateau d’Amboise in France, the Chateau Marmont was born out of the desire of a famous Los Angeles attorney to build a luxury apartment complex. When it was built, the building was described by the press as “the most beautiful building in the city”. Transformed into a hotel in 1931, it soon welcomed stars from all over the world, from Marilyn Monroe to Humphrey Bogart, including Scarlett Johansson and Jim Morrison. The scene of unbridled parties, the Chateau Marmont appears in numerous films, series and books.
