Cavern Club

Music Please Please Me The Beatles (1963)
The Beatles' first studio album features compositions like I Saw Her Standing There and Love Me Do, but also several covers. A brilliant summary of the years spent on the stage of the Cavern Club in Liverpool. A club that is still present but slightly modified, where the fans keep coming.

“Well, my heart went ‘boom’ when I crossed that room, and I held her hand in mine.”

The Beatles (I Saw Her Standing There)

November 9, 1961. Brian Epstein, the son of a Liverpool appliance dealer, attends a Beatles concert. Then made up of Paul McCartney, George Harrison, John Lennon and Pete Best, the group makes a strong impression on the young man. He then decided to become the manager of these obviously very talented musicians. Over the years, the Beatles performed 292 times at the Cavern Club, first with Pete Best and then with Ringo Starr, their permanent drummer from another city band, Rory Storm and The Hurricanes.

A place of legend

Everyone who has had the chance to spend an evening at the Cavern Club describes the place as uncomfortable. Located in the basement, the very small concert hall encourages heavy condensation, it is hot and there is not much room. Here the Beatles made their mark and became legends. The Fab Four began their chart career with the recording of Please Please Me, their first album, which includes the hits Love Me Do and I Saw Her Standing Her, as well as their mythical cover of Twist and Shout by the Isley Brothers.

Farewell to the cradle

Please Please Me was first released in England on March 22, 1963. A little taken by surprise by the already impressive success, the Beatles can no longer play in places as small as the Cavern Club, to which they say goodbye on August 3, 1963. Others will follow them like the Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, Aretha Franklin, John Lee Hooker, The Kinks and later, after the reconstruction of the hall, the Arctic Monkeys and Oasis.

The Beatles’ first album was certified six times, twice platinum and four times gold.

Cavern club

Made history by the Beatles, this Liverpool club was demolished in 1973 then rebuilt in 1982 to the delight of fans.

Inaugurated in 1957, the Cavern Club wasted no time in welcoming musicians from around Liverpool. It was here, on the tiny basement stage, that Brian Epstein first saw the Beatles on November 9, 1961. they too became famous like Lemmy Kilmister, the leader of Motörhead. In 1973, the Cavern Club was destroyed but it was reborn from its ashes in 1982. The reconstruction having used stones from the old building. It still hosts concerts and often pays tribute to its most famous residents.
