“- You know, I don’t understand you Sheila. What was your reason for choosing this profession?

– What did you want me to do?

– I don’t know me, modeler, dancer… singer!”

Inspector Dan (Brett Halsey) and Sheila

Bang-Bang, released in 1967, tells the story of a young woman named Sheila, played by the singer herself, inheriting the management of a private detective agency. Putting her hand to the paw, Sheila herself becomes a project manager for her agency.

The company’s headquarters are located at Castle of Lignères, near Rouillac in the Charente. This setting was made possible by the main sponsor of the film, Paul Ricard, owner of the house. Sheila was a rising star at the time, an icon of the yéyé generation.

In the middle of shooting, on August 16, 1966, the producers have a great idea, to celebrate the birthday of their star, Sheila. That evening, 5,000 people were invited to celebrate the event with the singer. The cake is 1,2m high and weighs 50 kilos, gigantic buffets are set up in the park, six orchestras are scattered everywhere and the young woman is covered with gifts by the present guests. An unforgettable memory for Sheila, “My 20 years in Lignères? Yes, I remember that! There was a crazy crowd. The lawns were trampled and the buffets taken by storm. It was Hiroshima at the castle!” said 52 years later the artist to the newspaper Sud Ouest. Friends that she will never forget.

Château Lignères

Built in the 19th century, the Château de Lignères is an important wine estate in the Cognac region.

In 1872, the Rémy-Martin family installed a wine storehouse and a distillery on the estate, and in 1872 built the castle in the center of the park. With its two two-story high towers, the neo-renaissance style residence is known throughout the Charente.

In 1965, the Ricard company bought the place and built a new distillery in 1974. A hundred people were employed there until 2009, when the group sold the Cognac Bisquit brand to the South African company Distell.
