Castle of La Rochefoucauld
Called in to investigate the murder of the Duchess of Essile’s son-in-law, Alex Meurisse (Jean-Charles Chagachbanian) is far from thrilled to be part of the investigation. His father was the steward of the castle and he himself had a very bad experience with his employers. Twenty years later, he must collaborate with the duchess to find the murderer of her son-in-law.
Shooting at the castle of La Rochefoucauld was an obvious choice for the director, Claire de La Rochefoucauld. In addition to the fact that his uncle, aunt and cousins work full time on this monument, the place is steeped in history. As an integral part of her family for more than 1,000 years, she has been there several times, including for her wedding. Two years ago, when the project was first conceived, she intended to make the building one of her main characters.
The shooting was quite difficult for the director. The angles of the building, the staircase designed by Leonardo da Vinci or the perspectives made the photography particularly sharp. In the end, Claire de La Rochefoucauld’s aunt advised her to shoot her film the way she wanted and the castle could only be sublimated on the screen. A challenge taken up.
The shooting of the film lasted three weeks.
Castle of La Rochefoucauld
Proudly standing on the banks of the Tardoire since 1026, the castle of La Rochefoucauld is an amazing building full of history.
The first fortified castle was built around 1026. A stronghold of the region, the building has suffered the ravages of time, yet quickly passed into the hands of the La Rochefoucauld family. It was within these walls that Charles VII, King of France, learned of the victory of his troops in July 1453, putting an end to the Hundred Years War.
In 1520, a large part of the castle was rebuilt in the Renaissance style while keeping the keep, which was rehabilitated and raised several times. The building was used as a main residence for many years. The Second World War and the troops of the Occupation considerably dilapidated the place.
Partially renovated in the 1960s, notably with the help of President Charles de Gaulle and his minister André Malraux, the castle can now be visited every day except Tuesdays. The funds collected from the visits allow the restoration of the majestic building to continue.
