Bertin Tannery
In the small village of Favière, Stéphane Bertin (Victor Lanoux) is the owner of the tannery that provides most of the jobs in the village. He therefore has almost absolute power over the entire population of the village.
The tannery of Sireuil was used as a setting for Stéphane Bertin’s tannery. Still in operation at the time, the Sireuil tannery closed its doors three years after the film was released. Just as the protagonists of the film dread the shutdown of the factory, it is coming true for the people of Sireuillois.
To thank the population of Charente, the producers decided to organize the preview in Angoulême.
The shooting in Charente lasted 6 weeks and 2 days, that is 44 days of shooting between Angoulême and Sireuil.
Tannerie
The Sireuil tannery was the most important of the five hide processing plants in the Charente department.
Former industrial site hosting metallurgical activities, the tannery of Sireuil begins to host the tannery from 1898. In 1923, the site officially became the Sireuil tannery.
The complex employed 500 people, making it the largest tannery in the region, and the third largest in France.
In 1981, the tannery closed its doors, leaving behind a heritage linked to its activity in oblivion.
