“Filthy habit.”

James Bond (Pierce Brosnan)

Under the control of MI6, the Royal Navy and the Russian army, James Bond is monitoring arms dealers in the middle of a market.

The American general quickly ordered a ground strike from the HMS Bedford to eliminate the traffickers and thus eradicate a huge threat.

But soon James Bond, aka White Knight, warns them that two nuclear bombs are attached to one of the planes on the market. Too late, the missile will soon arrive at its point of impact.

Agent 007 will then do “his job”, to paraphrase M (Judi Dench). He’ll go after the criminals to intercept the plane and escape with it, before the missile reaches its destination.

James Bond manages to escape just in time, but not without further difficulties.

Instead of Russia, France has the honour of hosting the filming of this sequence, at the altiport of Peyresourde – Balestas.

Aérodrome de Peyragudes Altiport 007

The Aérodrome de Peyragudes, opened in 1971, has benefited from a strong exposure thanks to the film Tomorrow Never Dies.

From 1971 to 1997, the small airfield welcomed a few mountain aviation enthusiasts, but attendance was very low.

The filming of Tomorrow Never Dies changed the situation. Since then, the airfield, highly exposed, has even been renamed “Altiport 007”.

In 2017, the airfield was the arrival point of a stage of the Tour de France, won by the Frenchman Romain Bardet.
