Antoine Maréchal (Bourvil) is on a little cloud, he finally leaves for Italy at the wheel of his beautiful blue 2CV. With his suitcases packed, he heads quietly towards the Pantheon Square.
At the same time, Léopold Saroyan’s Rolls Royce (Louis de Funès) crashes into the rue Clovis and hits the small Citroën from behind, which falls to pieces in front of number 6, Place du Panthéon.
Catastrophe, Antoine comes out of his car completely devastated. His vacation’s ruined and he doesn’t know what’s going to happen to him.
The unsympathetic Saroyan, who does not care about the poor man’s fate, assures him that it does not matter and that all he has to do is walk. He hastily gives him his business card, then goes back to his business, leaving Antoine in the square.
When Bourvil launches the line, which has become cult, “Now, she’s going to walk a lot less necessarily!”, we can quickly see Louis de Funès turning his head. He laughed out loud because of this totally improvised repartee by his companion.
In order to completely dislocate the 2CV, 250 electric bolts had to be implanted on strategic points. The stage had to be shot in one go, the slightest flaw reduced a month’s work to nothing.
6 Place du Panthéon
Close to the Pantheon, in front of the Saint-Etienne-du-Mont church, number 6 is ideally located on this particularly popular Parisian square.
Designed in 1770 on the former gardens of the Abbey of Sainte-Geneviève, the Pantheon square necessitated the destruction of the Lisieux college, founded in 1336 by Guy d’Harcourt.
The present Pantheon was formerly called the church of Sainte-Geneviève, hence the name of its neighboring street, the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève. The change of name took place after the Revolution.
From 1930 to 1999, number 6 was home to composer Maurice Duruflé and his companion organist Marie-Madeleine Chevalier. A plaque on the facade of the building pays homage to them.
