Although the series is set in New York, the sets of Friends were therefore based in California. This detail is important, because the fountain, for example, is not in New York… How? 1. Friends building

Photographed dozens of times every day, this building is world famous. This typical New York building appears as a prologue to scenes taking place in Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) and Monica’s (Courteney Cox) apartment or Chandler (Matthew Perry) and Joey’s (Matt LeBlanc) apartment. The production chose this building simply because it was John Schaffner’s, the artistic director of the series.

2. Phoebe’s apartment

It’s in this building, a five-minute walk from Monica’s building, where Phoebe lives. But impossible to be more precise, in the series the number of his apartment changes according to the episodes! His grandmother owned the house and shared it with her before leaving it to him when she died. Phoebe then shares it temporarily with Rachel Green and then with various boyfriends.

This theater built in 1926 hosts in the third season the play that Joey plays with Kate Miller. If he hates her first, he’ll fall in love with her later. 4. Chandler Office

Chandler is probably the character with the least thrilling work that no one understands, but at least he’s in a remarkable building: the Solow Building, a 50-storey skyscraper with a beautiful curved facade. Office rentals there are among the most expensive in Manhattan.

After completing his paleontology studies, Ross worked in this unlikely name museum under the direction of Dr. Ledbetter. He brings Rachel there, and the romantic evening ends on animal skins. The “Museum of Prehistory History” does not exist, but the American Museum of Natural History is real, and exciting, no matter what the other characters in Friends say.

6. New York University

Founded in 1831, NYU is the largest private, non-profit university in the country with 40,000 students per year. From season 6, Ross works there as a professor of paleontology after losing his job at the museum. There he meets Elizabeth Stevens, one of his students. They will go out together in spite of the opposition of the father of this one, interpreted by Bruce Willis.

7. Saks Fifth Avenue

In the first season, Rachel gets a job interview to work as a professional buyer in one of New York’s largest stores. Unfortunately she will not be retained. Saks Fifth Avenue is an American department store chain founded in 1924. This building is the original site.

8. The Plaza Hotel, Friends’ quarrel

At the end of the sixth season and the beginning of the seventh, Chandler and Monica decide to get officially engaged. To celebrate, they decide to take their friends to drink champagne at the Plaza. But when Monica opens the door, she discovers Ross and Rachel kissing and gets angry. She was hoping that this night would be dedicated to her, but she knows that everyone will now be talking about Rachel and Ross getting back together. However, make no mistake, the Grand Army Plaza fountain does not appear in Friends, despite the fact that several guides and sites announce the contrary. There is something to be mistaken since its design is very close to the one visible in the series … But being in Los Angeles.

Rachel works in this very important high-end clothing store in the third season. Founded in 1872, the Bloomingdale’s Brothers sign has experienced a great expansion. In 1886, they moved to the corner of 59th Street and Lexington Avenue and occupied the entire block by the 1920s. Today, there are about 50 Bloomingdale’s in the United States.

10. Ralph Lauren

Passionate about fashion, Rachel ended up getting a very important position at Ralph Lauren. She’s even going to run into him one day in the elevator! As in the series, this shop is a luxury store, on several floors, with a studied scenography. The design of the building will get you in, the interior decoration will make you stay but the prices may surprise you.
