    IAM’s ninth studio album, Yasuke was released in France on November 22, 2019. Released by the Def Jam France label, it was recorded in Marseille but mixed in New York. Its title refers to an African slave who lived in the 16th century known to have become a samurai in Japan. The album was announced through the release of the single Omotesando, accompanied by a music video. As for the cover, it refers to Géricault’s painting The Raft of the Medusa and thus refers to attempts by migrants to cross the Mediterranean Sea.
