Novel The Lover Marguerite Duras (1984)

The Lover Marguerite Duras

A largely autobiographical story, The Lover has sold more than 2.4 million copies since 1984.

The film adaptation of Jean-Jacques Annaud released in 1992 was not to the liking of Marguerite Duras, who rewrote the story in another novel, The Lover of North China with indications to adapt it into a film. In 2011, the work was brought to the stage of the Grand Midi theater in Ixelles, Belgium, by Benard Damien, and then in a comic book in 2020 by Kan Takahama.
