Edgar Wright’s seventh fictional feature, Last Night in Soho tells the story of the arrival in London of Ellie Turner, a young fashion student soon faced with nightmarish visions. Far from the comic tone of the Cornetto trilogy, the director-screenwriter organizes here the meeting of the giallo dear to Dario Argento with the codes of British horror films, citing influences such as Don’t Look Now by Nicolas Roeg and Repulsion by Roman Polanski . Al sprinkled with a bit of time travel for good measure. Mostly shot in the Soho neighborhood between May 23 and August 30, 2019, Last Night in Soho sees its release delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Presented in preview at the Venice Mostra in 2021, it collects generally very favorable reviews. It is the last film of actress Diana Riggs, who died before the theatrical release.
