Aired between November 3, 1978 and March 7, 1986, Diff’rent Strokes brought Gary Coleman to fame. She also remains infamous for what the media came to call the Diff’rent Strokes curse. After the series, Gary Coleman had many run-ins with the law and found himself bankrupt. He died on May 28, 2010 at the age of 42 following a cerebral hemorrhage. Todd Bridges, Willy’s interpreter, became addicted to drugs and was jailed. He nevertheless managed to climb back up and find his way back to the studios. Dana Plato, Virginia’s interpreter, was arrested for armed robbery, false prescriptions for valium, and drug abuse. She committed suicide on May 8, 1999 at the age of 34. Her depressed son died on May 6, 2010, at the age of 25.
