Adapted from Sacha Guitry’s play, Beaumarchais the Scoundrel takes place in 1773 and focuses, as its title indicates, on the figure of Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais, a French writer, musician and businessman, notably known for having been Voltaire’s publisher. The famous herald of the French Revolution is played on screen by the facetious Fabrice Luchini.
