Cleopatra, the queen of Egypt, decides, in order to defy the Roman Emperor Julius Caesar, to build in three months a sumptuous palace in the middle of the desert. If she succeeds, he will have to concede publicly that the Egyptian people is the greatest of all peoples. To do this, Cleopatra calls upon Edifis, an energetic avant-garde architect. If he succeeds, she will cover him with gold. If he fails, she will throw him to the crocodiles.
The latter, aware of the challenge, seeks help from his old friend Getafix. The druid makes the trip to Egypt with Asterix and Obelix. For his part, Amonbofis, Cleopatra’s official architect, jealous that the queen has chosen Edifis to build the palace, does everything he can to make his competitor fail.
