Vaux-le-Vicomte makes its cinema: relive the shooting of your favourite films
La Folie des grandeurs, Marie Antoinette, Molière, The Man in the Iron Mask and Moonraker, great films involve a great set. And what could be better than the castle that served as a model for Versailles, the most famous of them all? More than 70 films have been shot in Vaux-le-Vicomte and are now an integral part of the history of this splendid estate.
The castle of Vaux-le-Vicomte was built between 1656 and 1661 by Nicolas Fouquet, then superintendent of finance of the Sun King. He had Fouquet arrested a few weeks before the completion of the works and resumed the idea of architecture and gardens to order the famous Palace of Versailles. Ironically, Vaux-le-Vicomte is now used as the setting for the Versailles series.
During the event, the castle hosts an exhibition of posters and objects from the filming of Moonraker, as well as the helicopter used for the 1979 film. The organisers were able to meet the James Bond Girl in the film, Corinne Cléry – Corinne Dufour in the feature film – for a small photo session, but also the receptionist of the Venini glass factory played by Irka Bochenko and Blanche Ravalec, interpreter of Dolly.
In addition to this exhibition dedicated to the most famous secret agent, the château also shows the backstage of films shot 50 years ago, when the estate was opened to the public, with the arrival of Orson Welles in particular.
