Jim Hopper (David Harbour) is held prisoner in the middle of Kamchatka, in a Russian penitentiary known for the brutal methods of its jailers. All the scenes involving the Hawkins sheriff were shot in a real prison, in Vilnius, Lithuania. Located on the square of the same name in downtown Vilnius, Lukiskes Prison is known to have been occupied by the Gestapo and the Saugumas during the Nazi occupation. Thereafter, it was mainly used to receive prisoners in the process of being transferred and had only 180 permanent prisoners. Remarkable for its architecture, it closed in 2019.

Its Victorian-Gothic architectural style is a delight for visitors. In 2019, the owners decide to close store. The Claremont House was then put up for sale for just under $500,000.
