Shane MacGowan is an Irish musician born in 1957 in Kent.

Shane MacGowan was born in England to Irish parents and was immersed in the traditional music of his country from an early age by his mother, a singer and dancer.

In 1982, he co-founded the folk group The Pogues. Despite their success, he became addicted to drugs and alcohol. He left the band in 1991 to form a new one: Shane MacGowan and The Popes.

Shane rejoined The Pogues for a tour in 2001.
