Weakened by poor health, Robert Louis Stevenson spent much of his life at home.

He did not finish his engineering studies to devote himself to writing in 1871.

He meets Fanny Osbourne in Grez-sur-Loire, France. He fell in love with the young woman but could not follow her to the United States due to limited finances.

In 1879, he published Voyage avec un âne dans les Cévennes and left to join his future wife in Monterey the same year.

He then wrote Treasure Island and The Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
