At the age of 15, Posy Simmonds discovered comics and fell in love with them. In 1962, she took courses at the Sorbonne in Paris. She then studied graphic design and drawing at the Central School of Art and Design in London.
She later became a newspaper writer for The Sun and The Guardian.
In 1997, she published Gemma Bovery, then Tamara Drew and Cassandra Darke.
