Artist Pierre Ronsard

Pierre Ronsard is a French poet born in 1524 and died in 1585.

Considered one of the most important French poets of the 16th century, Pierre Ronsard spent his childhood in the castle of La Possonnière.

He went into the service of Charles of Orleans and then of his son, the dauphin Henri.

He then became interested in poetry and began to compose texts before 1544. He met Joachim du Bellay and Jean-Antoine du Baïf with whom he founded the Pléiade.

His first great work, Odes, was published in 1550. He became a poet and chaplain to King Charles IX. He writes then to the glory of the sovereign.
