The native of Rouen joined the monthly Je sais tout, directed by Pierre Lafitte, in 1905. He then published L’arrestation d’Arsène Lupin, the first short story featuring the famous gentleman burglar. It was the beginning of a huge success. He wrote 17 novels, 39 short stories and 5 plays based on this character.
