Manu Chao is a French singer, songwriter and performer born in 1961.

Born into a Basque and Galician family, Manu Chao met many Spanish-speaking authors at home, including Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Juan Carlos Onetti.

The family moved to Boulogne-Billancourt and then Sèvres. Ramon, his father, teaches him the piano, then he plays the guitar.

With his brother Antoine and his cousin Santi, they formed the group Mano Negra in 1987. They performed in France and South America.

In 1998, Manu Chao began a solo career, culminating in the album Clandestino.
