Madeleine Riffaud is a French journalist, writer, poet and resistance fighter born in Arvillers in 1924.
Madeleine Riffaud’s life changed the day a German officer in 1942 gave her a “tremendous kick in the ass”. She was 18 years old and decided to join the Resistance.
Suffering from a primary tuberculosis infection, she spent several months in a sanatorium in Isère. The establishment housed a clandestine printing house. She then actively joined the Resistance.
After the war, she became a journalist and writer. She followed the anti-colonial movements in Indochina and Algeria and covered the Vietnam War.
She published Les linges de nuit, collections of poetry but also a series of comics Madeleine résistante with Dominique Bertail and Jean-David Morvan.
