Born on October 16, 1925, Angela Lansbury fled the bombing of London during the Second World War for the United States. She attended the Feagin School of Drama and Radio but was forced to work in a department store.
In 1944, she got her first role in the film Haunting with Ingrid Bergman. She then played Queen Anne of Austria in The Three Musketeers in 1948.
Then came The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Fires of Summer. She went on stage to play in musicals like Hotel Paradiso, Mame, Gipsy or Sweeny Tood.
She played in The Witch’s Apprentice, Death on the Nile and Miss Marple.
Her greatest success remains the television series Arabesque in which she played Jessica Fletcher from 1984 to 1996.
She won the Oscar for best original song in 1992 for the cartoon Beauty and the Beast.
