Founded in 1888, this New York institution is one of the oldest Delicatessen in the city. Keep the ticket you are given at the entrance, it is used to take your order and you pay at the exit. The pastrami sandwich is legendary, as is the table where Meg Ryan fakes her famous orgasm in When Harry meets Sally. A sign always overhangs the table visible in the film and is accompanied by a little humour: “Hope you have what she had”.

2. The Loeb Boathouse, the most bucolic of restaurants – Sex and the city

This beautiful spot nestled in the heart of Central Park is one of the most romantic restaurants in New York, with its lakeside tables. If you don’t feel like dining there, you can simply stop for a drink and enjoy the view. In Sex and the City, this is where, trying to avoid a kiss from Mr Big, Carrie and her suitor end up falling into the lake. A most surprising date…

After being called Clinton Diner, this typical dinner has been called Goodfellas Diner since the shooting of Martin Scorsese’s film Goodfellas. This 1950’s style restaurant has been featured in a large number of movies and TV shows for over 40 years. This unfortunately burned down in 2018.

4. Cafeteria – Sex and the city

A very chic place with a tempting menu, including a wide choice for vegetarians, and affordable prices. The only drawback is that the place is known to be quite noisy.

5. Serendipity 3 – 30 Rock

The multitude of lamps and the cheerful bric-a-brac of the place are certainly worth the detour. For dessert, order a Hot Frozen Chocolate, a treat that greats like Marilyn Monroe or Andy Warhol have succumbed to. The recipe has been jealously guarded since 1954! Even Jackie Kennedy Onassis couldn’t get it.

Present since the opening of Grand Central Station in 1913, this seafood restaurant is splendid with its vaults decorated with a mosaic of Guastavino. For the anecdote, before entering you can have fun with the “whispering gallery”: what you say at the foot of the archway in front of the restaurant will be perfectly audible by a person in the opposite corner.

7. Pershing Square – Avengers

Located on 42nd Street, under the Park Avenue viaduct, and opposite Grand Central, this former tourist office converted into a restaurant is certainly worth discovering for its atypical setting: a chic décor with glass arcades and green-painted steel railway beams on the ceiling like in the subway.

Since it was founded in 1927 by former members of the Russian Imperial Ballet, this restaurant has certainly been worth the trip for its decoration, with paintings by Matisse or Picasso, but its prices are not cheap. This is also where Madonna worked in 1982 before she became famous. Coming to New York to try to start a career in the entertainment world, the queen of pop held the dressing room for two months, for $4.50 an hour, before being fired.

9. Tavern on the green – Ghostbusters

Opened in 1934 in Central Park and long considered one of the best tables in the city, this restaurant closed in 2010 after going bankrupt. It reopened in 2012 after major renovations and the card is quite expensive.

10. Orsay, the most French restaurant in New York – Homeland

A typically French brasserie in the heart of New York, it’s possible. Several employees speak the language of Molière and the cuisine of the premises is very much appreciated.

11. Bubby’s – The Devil Wears Prada

This pie factory founded in 1990 was so successful that it gradually evolved into a restaurant. Breakfasts are hearty and the pancakes are excellent, while the very pleasant setting gives the feeling of being in the country while looking out over the city through the window. A guaranteed change of scenery.

Open since 1885, this former smokers’ meeting place has one of the largest pipe collections in the world (about 50,000 pieces), all hanging from the ceiling. There is also a huge choice of pure malt whiskies to be tasted near one of the two large fireplaces. An exceptional setting but quite expensive.
