Money Heist and Inside Man, same fight.

Movie TV show
What do Inside Man and Money Heist have in common? The scenario is very similar. The Netflix series and the 2006 film seem to be fighting the same battle.

Money Heist in Inside Man mode

Money Heist was the event series of 2017, whose grand return is expected on September 29, 2019. Why talk about a 2006 film set in New York and a 2018 series set in Madrid?

The scenario between the two works is quite disturbing. In Inside Man, four armed and hooded robbers break into the Manhattan Trust Bank, block all exits and take staff members and some customers hostage. An extremely well thought out plan but one that confused Inspector Frazier (Denzel Washington). The policeman wonders what the robbers are really looking for. They don’t seem to be breaking into safes to take money, but rather are looking for a specific object.

Armed robbers, hooded, entering a building to steal something and well organized? Certainly, in Money Heist, what the robbers are interested in is money. This, however, is not the money of ordinary people, but money freshly printed by the National Coin and Stamp Factory, thus robbing the state rather than the people. This aspect of the story is similar to Inside Man.

And this is not the only feature film that inspired Alex Piña, the creator of the series. For the Tokyo character, the scriptwriter and producer used Matilda, the young girl played by Natalie Portman in Leon, as a model. Haircut and character, Matilda and Tokyo are almost twins.

Waiting until September 29, 2019, you can still discover Inside Man and Leon‘s cult places in the New York guide to the 1000 cult places of films, series, music, comics and novels, or travel to Madrid in the footsteps of Money Heist.
