This is where the Godfather’s daughter’s wedding takes place during the opening scene. Throughout this first part, most of the major decisions are made there. The house hasn’t changed and the current owners want it to remain true to the film. The most convenient way to get there is by taxi.

The St Regis

After learning on the way out of Radio City Hall with Kay (Diane Keaton) that her father had been the victim of an assassination attempt, Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) dines with his girlfriend in one of the hotel suites. He asks the young woman to return to her parents’ home while he goes to see her father in the hospital, who has now disappeared. No need also to go to the place where the Don is shot (128 Mott Street), the place is unrecognizable.

Michael is waiting outside this restaurant for Virgil Sollozzo (Al Lettieri) and Police Captain McClusky (Sterling Hayden) to drive with them to a place they have chosen. The objective is to explain, but once they arrive, Michael murders them after retrieving a gun hidden in the toilet. If this scene takes place in the Bronx in the Chez Louis restaurant, whose façade can be seen, it was shot at the Luna Restaurant, a little further away, and the owner and his wife played their own roles. Both restaurants no longer exist today.

Hotel Edison

Just before being murdered, Luca Brasi (Lenny Montana) meets Virgil Sollozzo (Al Lettieri) in a bar. In fact, it is Sofia’s, the hotel restaurant, transformed for the shooting.

First Calvary Cemetery

The Godfather’s funeral takes place in this immense cemetery, the largest in the United States, with three million people buried there. To make this scene spectacular, the production had used 150 extras, 20 limousines and $12,000 worth of flowers!

Michael attends a christening while his enemies are murdered. Only the interior scenes were shot here, the exterior being that of the Catholic Charities of Staten Island (6581 Hylan Blvd, Staten Island). For the anecdote, the Mass was conducted by a real bishop.

The Godfather’s right-hand man, Peter Clemenza (Richard S. Castellano) lives in this small Brooklyn home. He’s famous for his line: “Leave the gun; take the cannelloni.”

Ellis Island

As a teenager, Vito arrives in Manhattan and is mistakenly given the name Corleone, corresponding to his native village in Sicily. Like all immigrants in the early 20th century, the Statue of Liberty was the first vision of the young Vito Corleone when he arrived in America.

Fanucci murder

In 1917, Vito assassinates Don Fanucci, the representative of the mafia, thus gaining the trust of the neighbourhood. He then begins to intercede in local conflicts, gradually becoming the Godfather.

Mulberry Street Bar

Vincent Mancini-Corleone (Andy Garcia), Michael’s nephew, begins to get close to Michael’s daughter Mary (Sofia Coppola) by going to have a drink in this bar. Mary was originally intended to be played by Winona Ryder but she gave up at the beginning of the shoot because she was too stressed. Francis Ford Coppola then decided to replace her with his own daughter, Sofia, who was 19 at the time.
