The filming locations of Jurassic Park in Hawaii

Movie

Jurassic Park, Hawaii in the background

Who has never dreamed of venturing into the famous Jurassic Park and discovering both sumptuous landscapes and majestic mastodons? While some marry there, like Janel Parrish, others scour these barrens in search of instagrammable selfies.

Manawaiopuna Falls

Manawaiopuna Falls, Hanapepe Valley, Kauai Island, Hawaii, USA

122 metres, or more than 30 diplodocus, is the height of the waterfalls used as an airstrip for the helicopter of the two paleontologists (Sam Neill and Laura Dern) and John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) in the 1993 film, Jurassic Park. In guest-star of the remake Jurassic World, this huge waterfall is located on a private and not very accessible ground. However, it is possible to admire it by helicopter, just like the heroes of the various feature films. The saga has made this waterfall so popular that it’s nicknamed Jurassic Falls…

Kualoa Ranch

49-560 Kamehameha Hwy, Kaneohe, Hawaii, USA

This nature reserve of nearly 4,000 acres (more than 16 km2) is the main filming location for the saga. It was on these plains that professors Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler and Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) discovered the fabulous creatures resurrected by the eccentric John Hammond. The beautiful valley where the ranch is located was sacred to Hawaiians between the 13th and 18th centuries. In 1850, a doctor, Dr. Gerrit P. Judd, bought a few acres of this land for $1,300. To thank him for his work in translating medical journals, King Kamehameha – who inspired Akira Toriyama’s special technique of the same name in the Dragon Ball series – sold him several more acres.

The door

Waikoko Forest Management Road, Kauai, Hawaii

The gigantic door is of course an image anchored in everyone’s memory. If the set is built exclusively for the film, however, it is possible to get to the exact spot where it was erected. Many guides offer to take tourists to the site, the paths to get there are often strewn with pitfalls. There is a lot of information on the web about two poles erected at the exact location. However, its real construction area is located about 100 metres away. a little over a mile past the location of the gate, a clearing appears. This is where the T-Rex enclosure was set up.

Velociraptor Egg Tree

National Tropical Botanical Garden, Allerton Garden, 4425 Lawai Road, Koloa, Kauai, Hawaii

In the middle of a tropical forest, Alan Grant, Lex (Ariana Richards) and Tim (Joseph Mazzello), stumble upon a tree with strange and apparent roots. At the foot, the paleontologist finds velociraptor eggs. This tree is located in one of the botanical gardens managed by the National Tropical Botanical Garden, the Allerton Garden. Located next to Lāwaʻi Bay, it covers 80 acres and is named after its founders, Robert Allerton and his adopted son, John Gregg Allerton.
