3 Days to Kill in Paris
If you also have three days to kill in Paris, trust in our Guide Paris of 1000 cult movies, series, music, comics, novels locations instead of embarking on a secret CIA mission.
Ethan Renner (Kevin Costner) returns to his Paris apartment only to find it occupied by a family from Reunion. First wanting to evict them, the CIA agent finally resolves to leave them alone and goes off to a hotel. The sculpted wood doors of this former private mansion have been listed as a historical monument since 1926.
Christine and Zooey’s residence
After entrusting him with a mission, Vivi Delay (Amber Heard) drops Ethan off in this square where he finds his bike. From the outside, he hears a scream coming from his ex-wife and daughter‘s building. He rushes into the apartment to make sure everything is alright. Situated just a few steps from the home of Dalida, at 11 bis rue d'Orchampt which was previously occupied by the writer Louis-Ferdinand Céline, this small square is decorated with a bronze bust done by Aslan. The sculpture was inaugurated in 1997, on the tenth anniversary of the singer’s death.
Zooey (Hailee Steinfeld) tells her father she’s going to work on a presentation at a friend’s. In reality, she she goes to a night club for the evening. When she finds herself in very tricky circumstances, surrounded by three men, Ethan gets there just in time to save her from the difficult situation. Located in a former warehouse belonging to the Royal Guard, the night-club, tucked under the arches of the bridge, is a very unique place to have a party or just sip a drink.
Ethan teaches Zooey how to ride a bike using the one he had bought for her at the bottom of the Sacre-Coeur steps. There, the young lady complains about the number of tourists in the area. Nothing unusual, as this monument attracts 11 million visitors every year! From the steps in front of the Basilica you get an amazing and unique view of the capital.
At the end of the high-speed chase, the Albino (Tomas Lemarquins) takes cover in this metro station. Ethan catches up to him but his illness prevents him from neutralizing him immediately. It’s only when he risks getting decapitated by the metro train that the CIA agent manages to get himself up and finish with the Wolf’s lieutenant. This station, open in 1937, is one of the least busy in Paris with only slightly more than a million users per year, which ranks it at number 275 out of 302.
Grand Hotel Paris Intercontinental
Staying at the Grand Hotel, the Albino comes out as Ethan is waiting for him at the wheel of a Peugeot 208. The chase begins. The shooting of this scene brought on a debate between Kevin Costner and the director. The actor insisted on doing his own stunts. Even though he was adamant, he had to accept being doubled by a professional due to the degree of danger involved. Inaugurated in 1862, the grand Hotel has 470 rooms.
Hotel George V
Ethan manages to find the room of the Albino’s « accountant » but he’s interrupted by a call from Zooey. She’s waiting for him for their father-daughter rendez-vous. The personalized ring tone of the teen’s telephone calls was invented during the filming so that viewers would identify with the character. It’s the song I love it by Icona Pop featuring Charli XCX. This hotel, built in 1928, joined the ranks of the eight other Palace Hotels in France in 2011. It has 244 rooms including 59 suites.
Ethan’s ex-wife, Christine (Connie Nielsen) works in this magnificent building. It’s on the steps of the Petit Palais that she tells Ethan she’s in a meeting to avoid talking with him. The Petit Palais is in fact home to the Beaux-Arts (Fine Arts) museum of Paris. Built for the 1900 World Exposition, it was converted to a museum in 1902.
University of Paris International House
After many years of absence, Ethan reconnects with his daughter, Zooey, in front of the university where she’s studying. This little castle, a copy of the one in Fontainebleau, is not a place to go to lectures, but it offers numerous facilities such as a swimming pool, restaurants and an enormous library.
First meeting between Vivi and Ethan
Vivi speaks with Ethan at the Barres street market and mentions a contract. The two characters have a discussion on the corner of rue du Pont Louis-Philippe and rue des Barres, in front of the restaurant “Chez Julien”. Actually, the market doesn’t exist. This spot is also where Senera and Blair get together at the beginning of one of the two Parisian episodes of Gossip Girl.
