Fantastic Beasts: New-York, Paris and London on the program

Theater release on November 16th, 2018, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them telling the story of Newt Scamander, famous magical animal zoologist.

New York, Paris and London in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

New York, Paris, London, you might even think that David Yates and J.K. Rowling took their inspiration from Fantrippers to determine the three main cities of action in Fantastic Beasts 2.

In the second feature film of the saga, which echoes the world phenomenon Harry Potter, we can see three of the most filmed cities in the world.

The Big Apple is the least represented as we only see the Woolworth building, headquarters of MACUSA, the magical congress in the United States, already spotted in the 2016 movie and mention in our guide New York of 1000 cult movies, series, musics, comics and novels locations. Grindelwald is imprisoned here, before his spectacular escape.

Next it’s the Tower of London where our favorite scholar, Newt Scamander, lives. Summoned to the British Ministry of Magic, we also see where, assisted by Bunty, he keeps and meticulously looks after the animals under his care. During a stroll in the British capital, Newt manages to drop a member of the ministry who was following him, and meets up with Dumbledore on the roof of Saint Paul’s cathedral in London. The professor and his former student part company on Lambeth Bridge, a reference to Harry Potter as it is one of the spots on the Knight bus route.

Paris is at the center of the movie. The City of Lights receives the gloom generated by Grindelwald. Among the places in Paris, we can make out the structure of the Grand Palais which inspired the French minister of magic (mention in our guide Paris) along with one of its entrances situated in the middle of the Furstenberg square, as well as the Père Lachaise cemetery with the Lestrange family tomb, a meeting place for the disciples of Grindelwald. For this last spot, it’s important to wave your wand and pronounce the famous formula “Revelio”; it’s actually the cemetery at Highgate that was filmed to evoke the famous Parisian one. The scenes in the home of Nicolas Flamel, a precious ally of Newt’s in the movie, were not filmed in the real home of the alchemist, situated at 51 rue Montmorency in Paris and housing today a gourmet restaurant. As for the statue allowing access to rue Claudel, the Diagon alley French style, it's at the Opéra Garnier, isn't in the street.

Anyway, these three cities were not the only ones filmed, because we can also see the abbey of Lacock in England for the Hogwarts scenes. Simply magical settings. You can also buy the Newt Scamander's scarf here !
