Gastronomic restaurants in Paris

Fine flower of the gastronomy in Paris, here are 8 restaurants of your favorite movies and series to enjoy good food. also to be found in the Paris guide of the 1000 cult places of films, series, music, comics and novels.

The Silver Tower

In Ratatouille, dreaming of becoming a great cook, the rat Rémy enters the kitchens of the gourmet restaurant Chez Gusteau. He meets in epic conditions Alfredo Linguini, a clerk who is not very gifted and clumsy. While a rapprochement between the two characters at first seems unthinkable, they then form a shock team. A veritable culinary institution, the Silver Tower is said to have been founded in 1582. But the restaurant does not appear in official documents until 1860. It served as the inspiration for the design of the façade of Chez Gusteau.

at the Tour d’Argent, Liliane Burgaud’s Challans Duckling from Liliane Burgaud is still the star of the show, but is now offered in five courses. Behind this small revolution, Philippe Labbé, to whom La Chèvre d’Or (in Eze) and L’Abeille (the Shangri-La restaurant) owe their two stars. This golden chef has been at the helm of the Tour d’Argent since 2016, the year in which the Quai de Seine institution, founded in 1582, sold part of its heritage at auction: some 10,000 objects, including a duck press, crystal glasses, silver cutlery from the 17th century and 58 bottles, including a 1788 Clos de Griffier Cognac. Don’t worry, the cellar, over which David Ridgway has watched over for nearly forty years, still contains nearly half a million bottles.

Restaurant Plaza Athénée

In Chefs, for reasons of camera positioning during filming, the restaurant Le Paris was reconstructed in the studio in Bry-sur-Marne. But the cuisine in which Clovis Cornillac evolves is mainly inspired by that of the Plaza-Athénée.

The Plaza-Athénée restaurant still has its head in the stars (three in number) thanks to Alain Ducasse. In a dazzling setting imagined by Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku, the emperor of French gastronomy, at the head of more than 20 restaurants around the world, presents a cuisine of naturalness with the complicity of his chef Romain Meder. Sustainable fishing, forgotten cereals and vegetables harvested in the Queen’s Garden at the Château de Versailles are prepared to perfection here.

Le Grand Véfour

In Minuit à Paris, it is in this gastronomic restaurant that Gil, Inez and her parents have lunch discussing a typically French subject: politics.

A jewel of 18th century decorative art, located in the Beaujolais gallery of the Palais-Royal gardens, the Grand Véfour, which has two Michelin stars, is masterfully managed by the talented Guy Martin, who also became the owner in 2011. A la carte at one of the most beautiful restaurants in Paris, once frequented by Bonaparte, Hugo, Colette, Malraux, two anthology must-sees: the Ravioles de foie gras, truffled whipped cream, and the Parmentier de queue de bœuf aux truffes (oxtail Parmentier with truffles).

The Jules Verne

In Dangereusement Votre, it is in this exceptional place that James Bond meets Achille Aubergine (Jean Rougerie). This one is killed during the meal by May Day (Grace Jones). Located on the second floor of the Eiffel Tower, this superb starred restaurant offers a breathtaking view of Paris.

Jules Verne wouldn’t disavow this trip, which awakens all the senses. On the second floor of the Eiffel Tower, 125 m above the ground, the unmissable Alain Ducasse treats you to a refined cuisine revisiting the classics of French culinary heritage. Baked blue lobster, Sault spelt and tomato, Turbot with shellfish, roasted farmhouse poultry in a casserole, chanterelles and lemon confit, the five or six-course experience menu makes you dizzy.

Cristal Room Baccarat

In Gossip Girl, this luxurious establishment is the scene of the double rendezvous between Louis (Hugo Becker), Jean-Michel (Alexandre Silberstein), Blair (Leighton Meester) and Serena (Blake Lively). This one does not go particularly well, since Blair, disappointed that Louis is not the prince and that Serena is admitted to Columbia, leaves before the end of the dinner. But it is also here that Louis admits to Blair that he is indeed the prince, and that he realizes that Blair is only interested in his title.

Nestled in the very chic mansion of Marie-Laure de Noailles, the Cristal Room was given a facelift in 2017. With a new decoration (we love the brightly coloured velvet furniture), signed by the interior designer Jacques Grange, and a new Chef, Mathieu Méchéri. Guy Martin’s successor multiplies winks to the Lorraine region (quiche revisited, mirabelle plum soufflé…), thus recalling the geographical origins of the House of Baccarat.

Lapérouse Restaurant

In Gainsbourg, heroic life, although it is a far cry from reality, Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin meet in this superb restaurant in the film. The director took this liberty with the true story of the couple in order to propose a framework that corresponds to his vision of the characters.

Lapérouse’s small salons were originally intended to facilitate money transactions, before being diverted from their original function and becoming the theatre for dating. Today one can enjoy a tasty gastronomic cuisine there. Installed in an 18th century mansion, this mythical restaurant was home to the literary Tout Paris, notably Victor Hugo, who gave his name to one of the salons. For dessert, order the gourmet Lapérouse soufflé served with its caramel sauce for over 127 years!

Edern

In Chefs, the decoration of the Citrus étoile, created by Elisabeth Epié, the wife of chef Gilles Epié, who ran the establishment from 2005 to 2017, seduced the team of the series. She put her cameras there to shoot scenes in the hall and even some in the kitchen.

Edern, the restaurant of Jean-Edern Hurstel, former executive chef at the Peninsula, who worked at the Arpège de Passard and at Gordon Ramsay’s Aubergine, opened in August 2018 in place of Gilles Epié’s Citrus Etoile. The decor, on two levels, with a bar-lounge in the basement, is signed by the English designer Paul Bischop.

Maxim’s

In Gigi, during a dinner in this restaurant with Gigi (Leslie Caron), Gaston Lachaille (Louis Jourdan) behaves like a real cad. In American films, it is very rare that the lead roles go to French actors. This is the case in Gigi, however, as Maurice Chevalier and Louis Jourdan are two of the three headliners. Founded in 1893, Maxim’s is one of the most famous restaurants in the capital.

Maxim’s is one of the most famous Parisian establishments in the world, both an emblematic place of Art Nouveau and a flagship of French gastronomy, as evidenced by the parade of celebrities, from Marcel Proust to Lady Gaga, Maria Callas, Brigitte Bardot, John Travolta and Dita von Teese. Its braised sole Albert au Vermouth and langoustine remains a sure value.
