Following in the footsteps of Martin Scorsese in New York City

Movie

The Martin Scorsese course

We begin our journey in the footsteps of Martin Scorsese in Brooklyn, in the Sicilian restaurant Ferdinando’s Focacceria, where Billy Costigan questions Madolyn about Colin Sullivan in The Infiltrated. A 1904 establishment that serves as the starting point for a journey that then takes you to Manhattan to the New York Exchange, to observe the comings and goings of traders and to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the Wall Street Wolf alongside the ultimate predator of the stock market, Jordan Belfort. Further north, his yacht is moored at North Cove Marina.

The next point is in Columbus Park

A few blocks north is the iconic New York mafia restaurant Umberto’s Clam House, where Frank Sheeran kills a prominent Cosa Nostra member in The Irishman. The facility has moved several times since it opened, but it remains on Mulberry Street.

A little further up, still on the same street, you can visit the Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral, where Charlie Cappa goes in Mean Streets, before reaching the Volpe Bar, unfortunately disappeared today.

Change of ambiance for the next point, with the Tony Dapolito Recreation Center

Head for 13th Street to enter the Taxi Driver atmosphere, with the door in front of which stands Sport Matthew, Iris’s pimp. Don’t let its brown color fool you. It was repainted blue for the needs of the shooting. A little further on, at number 226, is the house where Travis Bickle meets young Iris.

Further north, east of Madison Square Park, is the building where Paul works in After Hours. Taxi Driver is again in the spotlight for the next point, in Times Square, with the Lyric Theatre, where Travis invites Betsy to see, to her great surprise, a film for adults. A theater since renovated but still recognizable. Take the opportunity to stroll around Times Square

A little peckish? Try the excellent Barbetta restaurant on 46th Street, where Colin and Madolyn dine in The Infiltrates. An Italian restaurant of course! Perfect to finish this Martin Scorsese course with a touch as tasty as it is exotic.
