Woodsboro Hospital
At the time of the first Scream, in the mid-1990s, Wes Craven had chosen to give birth to the fictional town of Woodsboro by assembling several locations in and around Los Angeles, shooting as willingly in the studio, under the Hollywood sun. Rather than replicate this approach, in order to save money, directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett chose to set up shop in Wilmington at Screen Gems Studios, as many recent productions have done.
It was a few months after the end of Halloween Kills that Scream came to town, using the same studio facilities. New Mecca of the American cinema, Wilmington welcomes more and more shootings. Not only do its studios offer all the amenities, but the city is also more affordable than many others in California where taxes are higher. So the Scream team transforms the Wilmington Convention Center into Woodsboro Hospital to stage one of the most memorable confrontations between Ghostface and the characters. However, only the front of the Wilmington Convention Center is used. All the interior sequences are shot in a studio, in settings that are more real than life.
The Scream saga also includes a series. This one has no real connection with the fifth part.
Wilmington Convention Center
The Wilmington Convention Center is the largest trade show facility on the North Carolina side of the border and hosts many events.
Opened in November 2010, this large-scale complex aims to attract conventions and other events that will attract new businesses to the Wilmington area. Costing the city $62 million, the center stretches along the Cape Fear River and has access to the ocean. Over the years, the Wilmington Convention Center has also been a magnet for the film industry, taking advantage of the presence of Screen Gems Studios in town.
