I don’t often get into a fight, but when I do, I want to win.”

Elizabeth II (Claire Foy)

The Long Gallery is a key location in The Crown. A place recreated within Hatfield House, where Peter Morgan and his decorators also found the perfect place to depict the Windsor Library and Marlborough House, the residence of Mary (Eileen Atkins), the grandmother of Queen Elizabeth II (Claire Foy).

A place with many facets

In that it “embodies” several locations, some of which are particularly important and recurrent, Hatfield House is one of the most important locations in The Crown. A historic building that was involved in the production of Netflix’s most royal series.

Hatfield House

Built in 1611 in the Tudor style, Hatfield House includes some elements borrowed from Jacobean architecture.

Located in the Hertfordshore, Hatfield House was erected at the request of Robert Cecil, the first Earl of Salisbury. The latter having also been the chief minister of King James 1st of England. The estate currently includes not only Hatfield House, but also Hatfield Palace, the Abbey of Saint Etheldrede, various Tudor-style buildings, gardens, parks and even a river, named Lea. The locations have appeared in movies like Greystoke, Batman, Tomb Raider, The New World, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Sherlock Holmes and My Week with Marilyn.
