Transmission tower
Fall takes place mostly in a single location, namely a communication tower lost in the desert. A tower that the two young women played by Grace Caroline Currey and Virginia Gardner decide to climb, before finding themselves blocked at the top. Motivated by the idea of using as little green screen as possible, director Scott Mann commissioned the construction of a portion of a tower atop a small mountain in the Mojave Desert.
Vertigo
From the beginning, when building the tower, Scott Mann used the KXTV/KOVR tower as a model. With a height of 625 meters, the building located in Walnut Grove in California is in all points in conformity with the tower of the film, with this cage making it possible to reach the top as well as the tiny platform on which the characters are blocked.
Tower of Fear
For some shots, in order to accentuate the impression of vertigo, Scott Mann still used digital special effects. Nevertheless, all the images filmed at the top of the tower remain perfectly authentic, except of course that in reality the actresses were only a few meters from the top of the mountain where the construction was installed.
Girl vs Wild
From the beginning, the shooting looks complicated. The sun, the wind, sometimes violent, and the risk of storm, with this metal needle likely to attract lightning, make things rather risky for the two actresses. Nevertheless, everything went as planned. Fall ended up being one of the most stressful feature films ever made.
Fall cost the sum of 3 million dollars.
KXTV/KOVR TV Tower
This communication tower located in Walnut Grove, California is, at 625 meters high, the third guyed mast in the world and the seventh tallest structure on the planet.
It was in 1986 that the KXTV/KOVR tower was built southwest of Sacramento. It is equipped with several television antennas. It was climbed in 2005 by base jumpers. The latter having illegally entered the site before climbing the tower to jump from the top. One of them was also arrested after his parachute got stuck in one of the stays of the structure.
