“You understand, I’ve already been shot three times! So, once more, you understand? I don’t care, I’m used to it!”

Tintin in The Broken Ear

The address of Tintin’s apartment has always been a puzzle for the reporter’s fans. We had to wait for the release of the different albums to glean some precious information here and there. In Tintin in the Land of the Soviets, Brussels is explicitly mentioned and the end of the album takes place in the old North Station, the only clearly identifiable building in the Belgian capital.

Later, the author mentions in The Broken Ear the address of 26 rue du Labrador. If there is a 26 rue du Labrador in Laeken, the street does not correspond to the few sketches made by Hergé. The doubt disappears with the release of Tintin in Tibet in which appears a letter written by Chang and addressed to Tintin, 26 rue du Labrador in Brussels.

The latter being fictitious, everyone agrees to locate Tintin’s real apartment at 26 rue Terre-Neuve. The address is reminiscent of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, of the breeds of canines, but above all of the home of Hergé’s grandmother, to which he regularly went. In homage to this mythical address, the Hergé Museum of Louvain-la-Neuve is located at 26 rue du Labrador.

3 175 400

A drawing by Hergé for the cover of the album The Blue Lotus was sold for 3,175,400 euros at auction in January 2021.

Rue Terre-Neuve 26

For a long time, Rue Terre-Neuve was home to numerous laundries. It has also experienced multiple floods.
