What’s up? What did you see?

Robert Neville (Will Smith) addressing his dog Sam

Accompanied by his dog Sam, Robert Neville (Will Smith) tries to survive in New York City invaded by zombies.

He keeps himself busy playing golf on the wings of an airplane at Pier 86 – the USS Intrepid – fishing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art or hunting in Times Square.

Sam smells something. She spotted antelopes. A bargain for Neville to eat. In his car, he then chases the herd. He stops, hides in the brush without making a sound and aims his rifle.

Initially, Warner Bros. was opposed to filming in New York because of the high production costs and the immense logistical challenges involved. The firm brought in Michael Tadross, a veteran New York City Production Manager. He obtained from the city the closure of the Grand Central Viaduct, several blocks of the 5e Avenue and Washington Square Park, on nights and weekends between September 2006 and April 2007.

Times Square

Manhattan neighborhood, Times Square is the place for all meetings in New York. Inhabitants and tourists meet by the light of the gigantic neon lights.

It never gets dark in Times Square. Since the advent of electric advertising in the early 20th century, the “Crossroads of the World” has been flooded with light.

And despite its many artifices, Times Square has reflected the city in its true light throughout the ages: the grandeur of Broadway, the decadence of the 1929 stock market crash, the liberation of morals, insecurity, renewal, flamboyance…
