The Weil and Grady's Saloon

TV show Outer Range Barry Watkins (2022)
Despite his differences with the Tillerson family, Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin) goes to The Weil and Grandy's Saloon, where Trevor Tillerson's (Matt Lauria) funeral is being held. After having a drink, he meets Autumn (Imogen Poots), with whom he plays a game of poker.

“No law. No rules. Nothing but chaos, through and through. Look around you. A man has just been put in the ground and people can’t think of anything better to do than drink themselves to death. To push back the darkness. To push away the emptiness.”

Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin)

It is common for films and series to be shot in different locations from those where the plot is set. For Outer Range, Brian Watkins’ first creation, he chose, for financial and practical reasons, to establish his headquarters in the state of New Mexico and not in Wyoming. It is here that he found the perfect saloon to stage the long sequence of the fourth episode, in which Royal Abbott (Josh Brolin) and his family attend the funeral of Trevor Tillerson (Matt Lauria).

The Legal Tender Saloon, a small western village built around the Lamy History Museum, has been transformed into a movie set, giving the Outer Range scenario the benefit of its typical architecture and its authentic decoration, based on woodwork and other sumptuous ornaments.

From the moment its first episode was posted online, Outer Range was quickly described as a cross between Yellowstone and Lost. The comparison with Yellowstone, another very popular contemporary western series, is also related to the presence in both shows of Will Patton as the main antagonist.

Legal Tender Saloon & Eating House

A very faithful reconstruction of a saloon such as the United States had during the second half of the 19th century, the Legal Tender Saloon is a must.

This richly decorated establishment takes place within an open-air museum in the form of a reconstruction of a western village. Very immersive, the saloon offers several spaces: one dedicated to catering and the other dedicated to the bar. It is possible to taste specialties of the gastronomy of the southern United States while listening to country music. The saloon also has game rooms in the great tradition of the saloons of yesteryear.
