The twins' apartment

Movie The Young Girls of Rochefort Jacques Demy (1967)
"Nous sommes deux soeurs jumelles nées sous le signe des gémeaux." This song is internationally known thanks to its interpretation by Catherine Deneuve and Françoise Dorléac. A ritornello sung in a beautiful apartment.

“Nous sommes deux soeurs jumelles

Nées sous le signe des gémeaux

Mi fa sol la mi ré, ré mi fa sol sol sol ré do

Toutes deux demoiselles

Ayant eu des amants très tôt

Mi fa sol la mi ré, ré mi fa sol sol sol ré do”

The song of the twins in the film Les demoiselles de Rochefort (lyrics: Jacques Demy, music: Michel Legrand)

It is one of the most famous musical theatre songs in the world. As soon as you listen to La chanson des jumelles performed by Delphine Garnier (Catherine Deneuve) and Solange Garnier (Françoise Dorléac), you are carried away in a state of euphoria. This melody remains in my head.

The twins practice and sing this jingle in this very chic apartment. It is in fact the Mayor’s office, located in the City Hall. It was built in 1770 for the naval officer Claude Marguerite François Renart de Furschamberg, then bought in 1804 to house the town hall.

This song works wonderfully because the two interpreters, Catherine Deneuve and Françoise Dorléac are two true sisters in life. However, they are not twins because they are one year and seven months apart, the second being the eldest.

1

Danielle Darrieux is the only actress to sing her own songs in the film.

119 Rue Pierre Loti

119 rue Pierre Loti in Rochefort-sur-Mer houses the city’s town hall.

The town hall was built in 1770 for the naval officer Claude Marguerite François Renart de Furschamberg, then bought in 1804 to house the town hall.

It was enlarged in the second half of the 19th century. It is composed of three levels. On the first floor, the reception of the public, on the second floor, the office of the mayor and his deputies and on the second floor, the administrative offices.
