The Centre Pompidou

James Bond meets Doctor Goodhead (Lois Chiles) for the very first time. She is the scientist in charge of the space shuttles. The fact that it’s a woman surprises Agent 007 somewhat.
The latter does not let herself be beaten down. The young woman proves to James Bond that she is much more than just a face, she is an accomplished scientist, seconded by the prestigious NASA, the American aerospace agency.
This meeting does not take place in an international Californian company as the film would have you believe, but in the prestigious Centre Pompidou in Paris. It was chosen by the production for its futuristic look.
The meeting between Dr Goodhead and James Bond took place on the fifth floor of the Centre Pompidou.
The Centre Pompidou
Opened in January 1977, the Centre Pompidou was the brainchild of President Georges Pompidou, a great lover of modern art.
It welcomes more than 3 million visitors a year and employs a thousand people. Its aim is to combine plastic arts, literature, music and modern or contemporary style cinema, all in the same place.
In addition to its collections, the center also houses other exhibition venues, cinemas and theaters as well as the Public Information Library (BPI).
Its architecture alone makes it an object of art that the curious can admire, photograph or even graffiti. A work by Banksy, created in 2018 on a panel near the building, was stolen in September 2019.
